Talking About Restaurant Equipment and Techniques

Hi there, I am Sal Kinders. I am going to use this site to talk about cooking techniques and tools used in restaurants. Chefs at large and small restaurants cannot use the same techniques and tools used to cook at home. Instead, the equipment allows chefs to mass produce meals to serve an entire restaurant full of people quickly and efficiently. The equipment also ensures each plate mimics the next to keep the product uniform. Restaurant customers expect their meals to taste, smell and look the same each visit. My site will explore these techniques and tools in great detail. Thanks for visiting.

2 Ways To Get A Vegan Meal At A Restaurant

When you are a vegan and go out to a restaurant with your friends who aren't vegans, you are likely to end up at a restaurant that does not specialize in vegan food. That can be frustrating because you may feel like you don't have any food options. However, many places offer vegan or vegetarian food options, which can be made to be vegan. So, how can you get some vegan menu items to enjoy dinner while you're out with your friends?

Ask Your Server

You don't want to be the person who asks to have everything in a particular dish substituted, but asking your server about certain items that may be in that dish is a good way to get a meal that will work for you. If the menu has vegetarian options, you can ask the server what the dish contains. A vegetarian meal will be easier to turn into a vegan meal that you can eat. Ask whether the chef uses butter in that particular meal, if there are eggs in it, and what kind of fat is used for cooking it. For example, if you are in a Mexican restaurant, you might want some refried beans. However, some refried bean recipes call for lard to cook the beans. Lard is not vegan, so you cannot eat them.

Check for Symbols

Some restaurants have symbols on their menus to mark special meals. For example, an extra spicy meal may have little peppers next to it so that you know it's spicy. The restaurant may have the same thing for vegetarian or vegan meals. The restaurant may have the whole word written next to the menu item, but they may just have a V or VN next. If you aren't sure if a particular symbol means that the meal is vegan or vegetarian, look for a guide on the menu. You can also check with the server because they'll be able to let you know. That will allow you to order confidently because the chef doesn't have to make any special changes to the meal to make it fit your dietary needs.

Going to a restaurant with friends can sometimes seem like a minefield for a person who is a vegan. There aren't always a lot of vegan menu items that you can choose from, but there are ways that you can get a delicious vegan meal from the restaurant.
